According to a report from the Mirror, Rafael Benitez is close to being appointed the new manager of Everton.
It has been reported that the Toffees have held further talks with the Spanish football expert at the weekend.
The Premier League outfit have been without a manager since Carlo Ancelotti left for Real Madrid after spending only 18 months at Goodison Park.
The Merseyside club looked close to appointing former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, but the two parties couldn’t reach an agreement.
And now they have been linked with Rafael Benitez, who has been out of work since parting ways with Chinese Super League club Dalian Professional in January.
However, the prospect of signing the 61-year-old has prompted a huge negative reaction from the club’s fans. They made their feelings known by placing BANNERS, something which can now be made freely on the internet without a lot of hassle, outside Goodison Park.
The Spaniard was the manager of their bitter rivals Liverpool between 2004 & 2010, with the football expert also leading them to a Champions League victory in 2005.
Rafael Benitez has also made an offensive comment about the Toffees when he was at the helm of affairs at Anfield, which is said to have angered the Everton fans.
Benitez has the distinction of managing some of the biggest clubs in the world, including the Reds, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Napoli.
Rafael Benitez boasts plenty of experience in management but considering his long association with the Blues’ fierce rivals, it doesn’t look like a very wise decision to appoint him at the club.
