Manchester City sign Girona winger Savio despite interest from other European heavyweights

Manchester City have signed Girona winger Savio despite interest from other European clubs.

According to The Guardian, the Citizens have agreed a deal for the youngster with documents to be signed in the coming days.

The 19-year-old has played an instrumental role for Girona this season as they are competing with Real Madrid for the La Liga title.

Despite his young age, he has made 27 appearances in all competitions this campaign, bagging seven goals and seven assists.

The Brazilian talent mainly operates on the left wing but is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder as well as a left midfielder.

His excellent development this season caught the attention of several clubs in the Premier League and the Bundesliga.

It is said that even a 30 million bid was lodged to secure Savio’s signature, but Manchester City have won the race for the player.

Girona are part-owned by City Football Group (CFG), which is the holding company that owns City as well as many other clubs.

Savio started his football career at Atletico Mineiro before being snapped up by Ligue 2 side Troyes, another CFG-affiliated club,  in 2022.

The Brazilian never played for Troyes, rather he was sent to PSV Eindhoven on loan for the 2022-23 season.

The 19-year-old then joined Girona in the summer, and now he will be heading to Manchester City.

But the youngster will stay in Spain until the end of the campaign.

City have also announced the signing of another top talent in Claudio Echeverri from River Plate.
