Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has extended his stay at Manchester United by penning a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2024.
The Premier League outfit confirmed on their official website that the 48-year-old has signed a new deal, and they have also the option to extend it for one more year.
The Norwegian boss was appointed as caretaker manager at Old Trafford in December 2018 following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho.
He quickly managed to revive the fortunes of the club, claiming 14 wins from 19 total matches.
That convinced the Red Devils to give him a permanent contract in March 2019.
United ultimately missed out on Champions League football for the following season as they finished sixth in the league table.
However, things improved at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 2019-20 season.
The Manchester side failed to make a good start but went on a very good run towards the ending stages of the campaign.
And a series of good performances saw them finish third in the Premier League table, securing 66 points from 38 matches.
And last season, the former Molde manager led his side to a second-place finish in the table, claiming 74 points from 38 total matches.
The Red Devils were so good last campaign that they even looked like genuine title contenders at the beginning of the year.
For most of January, they remained top of the table but subsequent draws and defeats meant that they ultimately finished 12 points behind the champions Manchester City.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also led his side to the Europa League final where Unai Emery’s Villarreal defeated them at the penalty shootouts.
While many of Manchester’s supporters are happy to see the contract extension of the Norwegian boss, there are also those who are not entirely convinced with the club’s decision.
They criticise the 48-year-old for not delivering a single trophy yet.
However, it is also worth keeping in mind that he has twice delivered Champions League football, leading his side to Top Four finishes in two successive years.
