Fernandinho Set To Sign With Manchester City

According to a report from The Mail, experienced midfielder Fernandinho has agreed to sign a new one-year contract with Manchester City.

The 36-year-old struggled for game time during the first half of last season, with Pep Guardiola preferring to feature Rodri for the holding midfield role.

However, the Brazilian footballer fought his way back and played an important role in reigniting City’s season. He clocked up 21 Premier League appearances for the Citizens last campaign, earning two assists to his name in the process.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk player also racked up eight Champions League appearances last season and was featured in the second leg of the tournament’s semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

Experienced midfielder

Fernandinho is an experienced midfielder who was a surprise omission for the final against Chelsea at Estadio do Dragao, with Guardiola including Ikay Gundogan instead.

Fernandinho joined Manchester City in June 2013 in a deal worth £34 million from Shakhtar Donetsk. Since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium, the 36-year-old has clocked up 350 appearances across all competitions for the Citizens, scoring 24 goals and creating 30 assists in the process (stats from Transfermarkt).

Fernandinho also has the distinction of winning four Premier League titles, six EFL Cups as well as an FA Cup during his time in Manchester.
