Manchester United Fear Losing Paul Pogba for Free Next Year

Manchester United want to open contract talks with their star player Paul Pogba after the European Championship.

According to a report from ESPN, the Red Devils fear that the midfielder could run down his current deal and leave Old Trafford next year for nothing.

The 28-year-old’s current contract at United is set to expire in the summer of 2022, having penned a deal with the club in 2016 after he arrived from Italian side Juventus. If he doesn’t sign an extension, he could start talks with other clubs from January and could depart the Manchester side without bringing any transfer fee.

It is said that there have not been any firm contact from top European clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus regarding the France international, due to the absence of funds. However, all these clubs, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, would be keen to secure his services if the player becomes available as a free agent.

Paul Pogba’s future at United has been the subject of intense speculation, especially during the summer transfer windows of 2018 and 2019 when La Liga giants Real Madrid were linked with a move.

However, he ended up staying in Manchester but now with no new deal between the two parties agreed, the 28-year-old’s future is still very unclear.

The Red Devils seem to have two options regarding the star midfielder. Either they could convince the player to sign a contract extension or they could lower the transfer fee and try to sell him in the summer.

Paul Pogba joined the academy of Ligue 1 side Le Havre in 2007 before he signed for Manchester United in 2009. However, he left for Juventus in 2012 due to lack of opportunities at Old Trafford. His stint at the Old Lady was highly successful as he won four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles during his time at the Allianz Arena.

The 28-year-old’s performances attracted his former club United who then splashed an enormous £89.3 million to bring him back to Manchester.

Since arriving at Old Trafford, he has clocked up 134 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 28 goals in the process. Good Luck Paul Pogba.
