Women are progressing in every field of life including sports like football. In the modern world, some of the best female soccer players in the world prove that they can also excel in any sport.

1- Sam Kerr (Australia)

Many regard Sam Kerr as the best female soccer player in the world in 2021. She was born in Western Australia and currently plays for Chelsea as a forward. The 28-year-old has the distinction of being the all-time leading scorer in the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States. 

Sam Kerr began her career at the age of 15 with Australian club Perth Glory. Between the years 2008 and 2011, she made 22 league appearances for the Perth-based side and scored five goals for them. The 28-year-old left for Sydney FC in 2012. After earning 24 appearances and scoring 13 goals, she joined Western New York Flash.

Following a short stint at the club, Kerr returned to Perth Glory in 2014. Between 2014 and 2019, the experienced forward made 49 appearances for the Australian side. She scored an incredible 52 goals during that time for Perth. 

The amazing footballer went on to sign for Sky Blue FC in 2015. She clocked up 40 league appearances there and plundered 28 goals for them. Following a short spell at Chicago Red Stars, the Australian joined Chelsea in 2019. She has been playing for the Blues since then. So far, the 28-year-old has made 34 league appearances for them, scoring a remarkable 31 goals. 

That was all about her successes at different clubs. However, she has been just as excellent with her performances for her country. Sam Kerr represented Australia at youth levels and made her international debut when she was only 15. She left the bench in the friendly match against Italy in February 2009. Since then, the talented forward has participated in several prestigious competitions for Australia. 

Sam Kerr took part in the 2010 AFC Women’s Asian Cup as well as the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She also represented Australia in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The amazing forward was part of the team that defeated Brazil in the knockouts. She also started the quarterfinal match but Australia ultimately lost that important game.  

Kerr was the captain of the national team during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. One of her best performances came in the match against Jamaica as she struck four goals and was later named Player of the Match. Thus, she earned the distinction of being the first Australian footballer to score a hat-trick at a World Cup tournament. Australia progressed to the knockout stage of the competition after finishing second in their group. 

2- Lucy Bronze (England)

Lucy Bronze plays for Manchester City. She is also one of the Best Female Soccer Players in the World just like Messi who is considered as one of the best soccer players of all time. The full-back was born in Berwick-upon-Tweed, England. 

Lucy Bronze played for the North Carolina Tar Heels during her college career. She began her senior career at English side Sunderland. The amazing player helped her team win the Northern Division and earn a promotion to the National Division. She also played in the 2009 FA Cup final. Though Sunderland lost the important match, Bronze won the Player of the Match award. 

The 30-year-old went on to sign for Everton in the summer of 2010. She earned her debut for the Toffees against MTK that year. During her stint at Everton, the talented full-back clocked up 20 league appearances and scored two goals. 

The English footballer subsequently joined Liverpool in 2012. She earned three goals to her name in 28 league appearances there. After winning her second league title, Bronze left the Merseyside club to sign for Manchester City. The 30-year-old departed City to join Olympique Lyonnais in 2017. Her three years at the French outfit were highly successful. She managed to win nine trophies in three seasons with the club. The talented defender made 48 league appearances for them and notched three goals. 

Lucy Bronze returned to Manchester City in September 2020. The experienced defender was named as winner of The Best FIFA Women’s Player Award in December 2020. 

Bronze has also been receiving great praise for her performances for the England national football team. She represented at all youth levels of the England national team. And she earned her professional debut for England in a friendly match against Japan in June 2013. 

Lucy represented her country at the 2015 Women’s World Cup. She scored the winning goal against Norway in the last 16 before also performing well in the quarter-final match against Canada. 3- Megan Rapinoe (United States)

She is also one of the best female soccer players in the world in 2021. Her place of birth is Redding, California, and currently plays for the OL Reign. 

The amazing midfielder played for the Portland Pilots during her college career. She started her professional soccer career at Chicago Red Stars. The experienced player stayed for a short period at the club She earned 38 league appearances there and scored three goals in the process. 

Megan Rapinoe also displayed her talents for several other top clubs. These include Philadelphia Independence, MagicJack, Sydney FC, and Seattle Sounders Women. The 36-year-old also remained on the books of Olympique Lyonnais for a short period.

4- Vivianne Miedema (Netherlands) 

Vivianne Miedema is a hugely famous name in the world of female football. Her place of birth is Hoogeveen, Netherlands. She currently plays for Arsenal as a forward. 

Miedema began her senior career at Dutch side Heerenveen. She clocked up 74 league appearances there and struck 83 goals. Her performances in the Netherlands attracted the attention of some big clubs in the world. However, Bayern Munich managed to secure her signature in the summer of 2014. Her three-year stint in Germany saw her score 52 goals in 78 league appearances. 

Bayern Munich wanted to extend her stay. However, they were not ready to break their pay structure for Miedema. And so the 25-year-old left to join Arsenal in May 2017. 

Vivianne Miedema has earned her name on the scoresheet on 66 occasions in 75 league appearances. She is the all-time leading scorer in the FA WSL, just like Silvio Piola is the top goal scorer in the Serie A.  While on the international front, the player has also earned a great name for herself. The amazing forward has made over 100 appearances for the Netherlands national football team. She has also scored an incredible 85 goals for the national side. 

Miedema has the distinction of winning the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award in 2021. The Netherlands international also has the honor of being named Women’s Player of the Year at the London Football Awards. She has also been shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or Feminin.

5- Ada Hegerberg (Norway)

Ada Hegerberg is also one of the best female soccer players in the world in 2021. She was born in Molde, Norway. The 26-year-old is currently on the books of Olympique Lyonnais, playing as a striker for them. 

Ada Hegerberg started her senior career at Kolbotn. She made 30 league appearances and scored 15 goals for them. The striker joined Stabaek in 2012 before going on to sign for Turbine Potsdam. After a short stint at the German side, she joined Lyon in 2014. 

Besides her good performances for clubs, Hegerberg has also been excellent at international level. She also played for the youth teams but earned her senior debut for Norway in 2011 against Northern Ireland.

6- Amandine Henry (France)

Amandine Henry started playing her favorite sport when she was only five. She continued playing football with boys till she became 13. The 32-year-old currently plays as a defensive midfielder for Olympique Lyon. She is widely regarded as one of the best female soccer players in the world in 2021. 

Henry started her senior career at Henin-Beaumont. After a short stint at CNFE Clairefontaine, she joined Olympique Lyon in 2007. The defensive midfielder made 122  appearances for the French side before signing with the Portland Thorns in 2016. 

Amandine Henry returned to Lyon for the 2017-18 season. Since her return, she has clocked up 40 league appearances for the French outfit, scoring 11 goals in the process.

Henry has clocked up 92 appearances for France, scoring 13 goals in the process. She has been captain of the national side since October 2017.

7- Rose Lavelle (United States) 

Rose Lavelle is also a big name in the female football world. Her place of birth is Cincinnati, Ohio. The 26-year-old, considered as one of the best female soccer players in the world in 2021, currently plays as a midfielder for OL Reign. The American side currently competes in the National Women’s Soccer League. 

Rose Lavelle also has the distinction of playing for some of the most famous clubs in the world. These include Dayton Dutch Lions, Seattle Sounders, Boston Breakers, Washington Spirit, Manchester City and OL Reign. 

The famous midfielder has also earned 68 caps for the United States national team. She struck three goals for the national side at the 2019 World Cup. That saw her win the Bronz Ball. Besides that, Lavelle also became the sixth-best player in the world at The Best FIFA Football Awards 2019. 

Rose Lavelle impressed with her performances for the national side at the youth level. She made her first senior appearance in 2017 against England at the SheBelieves Cup. During her career so far, she has played for seven clubs. However, the 26-year-old has spent longer at Washington Spirit than others. 

Lavelle joined the club in 2018 but injury plagued her stint. However, she still managed to score a goal and an assist in six appearances. And that saw her making it to the 2019 NWSL Best XI at the end of the season awards. 

8- Jessica McDonald (United States)

Jessica McDonald is the seventh-best female footballer in the world on our list. She is also an American soccer player who was born in Phoenix Arizona. The talented forward currently plays for the North Carolina Courage. 

Jessica McDonald played for Phoenix Bears and North Carolina Tar Heels in her college years. She was picked up by the Chicago Red Stars in the 2010 WPS Draft. The 33-year-old went on to play for several other clubs. They include Melbourne Victory, Seattle Reign, Portland Thorns, Houston Dash, and Western New York Flash. 

The 33-year-old joined this club in 2017 and has been playing for them ever since. She has also displayed her skills for many other top clubs in the world. These include Chicago Red Stars, Melbourne Victory, Seattle Reign, and Western New York Flash.

Jessica McDonald represented her country at youth levels and made her international debut in 2016 against Romania. She has clocked up 19 appearances for the United States, scoring four goals.

9- Julie Ertz ( United States)

Julie Ertz, widely regarded as one of the best female footballers in the world, is currently on the books of Angel City who are expected to begin play in 2022. The 29-year-old plays as a midfielder but can also be used as a defender. The American female football star played for Santa Clara University Broncos in her college career. She also majored in communications at the university.

10- Wendie Renard (France)
