The new Premier League season has started. Manchester United pulled off a dominating 5-1 victory over Leeds United, while their rivals Manchester City suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Chelsea picked up easy wins against their opponents at the weekend.

Jadon Sancho
Manchester United were heavily linked with a move to Jadon Sancho last summer. However, they couldn’t reach an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the English footballer.
The Red Devils continued their efforts this season and finally managed to land the highly-rated winger this season. They had to part with a hefty £73 million to secure the services of the 21-year-old but considering the brilliance of the player, the transfer fee looks justified.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be aiming to win the Premier League title this season, and having Sancho in the team could be crucial for them.
Jadon Sancho is an academy graduate of Manchester City who left for Germany due to a lack of opportunities at the Etihad Stadium. His decision to leave the Premier League outfit proved right as he became an instant success at Dortmund.
The talented winger signed for Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017 and made his debut in October against Eintracht Frankfurt. He established himself as a regular member of the team in his second Bundesliga season.
Since his arrival at the Westfalenstadion, the talented forward clocked up 137 appearances across all competitions for the Black and Yellows, netting 50 goals and creating 64 assists in the process (stats from Transfermarkt).
His performances in Germany earned him a call-up to England squad and so far, he has racked up 22 appearances for the Three Lions.
Raphael Varane
Harry Maguire was a shrewd signing for Manchester United. Although the England international cost them a hefty sum, his arrival greatly strengthened United’s backline.
The Red Devils were looking for a long-term partner for the centre-back, and in Raphael Varane, they found the perfect match.
Manchester United didn’t have to splash a big sum as Varane only had a year remaining on his contract at Los Blancos, having extended his deal in 2017. As per MEN, they completed the signing for Varane for a transfer fee rising to £43m.
United have handed him a four-year contract, with the option of an additional year as well.
Varane started his senior career at Lens before switching to Real Madrid in the summer of 2011. His stint at the Santiago Bernabeu was highly successful as he won 18 major honours, including three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies.
Since his arrival at Real, he clocked up 360 appearances across all competitions, earning 17 goals and seven assists to his name in the process.
He was part of France’s squad for the 2014 World Cup. The talented defender also played a very important role for Les Blues as they went on to win the 2018 World Cup.
Varane is one of the best defenders in the world. With him and Maguire in the team, United look a formidable side this season.
Romelu Lukaku
Thomas Tuchel changed the fortunes of Chelsea after he took the reigns of the club in January. Not only the Blues managed to finish in the Top Four by the end of the campaign but also landed the biggest European prize – the Champions League trophy.
Now they want to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title this season. And that’s why they have splashed a huge £97.5m to secure the services of a top goalscorer – Romelu Lukaku.
