Manchester United were low on confidence ahead of their home game against Aston Villa on Tuesday.
They had suffered their eighth defeat of the league season at West Ham United just a few days ago.
However, Erik ten Hag’s men surprised everybody with a brilliant 3-2 success against the Villans at Old Trafford.
Villa looked on course for another huge victory after John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker both scored early in the first half.
But United made an excellent comeback after the interval and registered full points from the home encounter.
Alejandro Garnacho gave a standout performance, netting a brace. Rasmus Hojlund then scored his Premier League goal, helping his side to a brilliant comeback win.
Ten Hag relieves some pressure
The Dutch boss did an excellent job last season, leading United to Carabao Cup success and also a Champions League finish. But the same thing cannot be said about the present campaign.
The Red Devils finished at the bottom of their Champions League group, thus being denied even the consolation of a Europa League place. Meanwhile, despite playing an extra game in the Premier League, they are five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Ten Hag has relieved some pressure off his shoulders by guiding his side to an excellent victory against Villa. He will hope to build on that success by delivering more such results over the following weeks.
Hojlund breaks Premier League duck
Manchester United spent a huge £64 million to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in the summer. Due to the price tag, there has been a lot of expectation for the Danish forward.
And while he showed his goal-scoring prowess in Europe, he failed to even open his scoring account in the Premier League for a long time. However, that ended this Tuesday when he fired home United’s third goal against Villa.
That is likely to do a world of good for his confidence. Hojlund has a lot of potential but he is still very young and has a lot of room for improvement.
Garnacho’s excellent performance
Alejandro Garnacho missed a couple of scoring chances against West Ham. However, he was at the top of his game at Old Trafford this week.
The young winger brought United back into the game by scoring two brilliant goals. He was easily the best player for Man Utd on Tuesday.
Garnacho also had 39 touches, won two long balls, and made one key pass. The 19-year-old has been a very important player for the Red Devils this season, featuring in 17 Premier League games and making four goal contributions.
